Case studies and situations.
This page talks about situations we often come across that could lead to unsafe equipment or costly repairs and downtime.
Unreadable operator safety decals
Operator instruction and safety decals are critical, providing the operator with information around risks and machine specific details to ensure every operator is able to safely work with the equipment. The clarity and condition of these stickers are a vital part of the pre operation inspection. In the case of an incident, missing or illegible decals could form part of an Incident Investigation.
On busy worksites, these stickers are vulnerable to scuffs and tears during the course of a productive work day. A thorough EWP inspection will pick up on an illegible decals and replace them. However, these should be regularly monitored by the owner or maintenance personnel. If you find worn or illegible decals, give Access Tech Support a call.

Battery connections and associated risks
Corrosion around battery terminals is most commonly caused by battery acid reacting with the metal terminals. Typically, corrosion looks like a flaky green, white or brown discoloration coating the battery terminals.
A corroded battery terminal can lead to erosion of the copper battery lug and increased electrical resistance. This generates excessive heat, posing a fire risk.
Operators should be checking battery fluid as part of the Pre Operation Inspection and regular visual checks should be part of the maintenance schedule. If your battery requires attention or replacement, Access Tech Support can help.

Trailer brakes and hidden issues
Whilst your trailer may look fine and have a current WOF, problems may be lurking unseen behind the wheel rims. This was the case when a trailer used to transport a scissor lift was inspected by Access Tech Support and found U bolts had rubbed thin against curbing and the ground.
The following issues are commonly picked up during trailer checks alongside COF inspections: worn brake pads, leaking seals, low brake fluid levels, worn suspension parts, over heated or dry wheel bearings, uneven tire wear, worn ramp locks and faulty tail lights. Access Tech Support can inspect and repair these components.

Diesel bug and other nasties
EWP diesel engine and mechanical servicing are not included in a 6 monthly inspection. However, your service supplier should keep a record and advise the due date of your mechanical service. A common outcome from missed mechanical services is Diesel bug. This is contamination of diesel fuel by microbes such as bacteria and fungi. It blocks the fuel filter and lines and can build up inside the fuel tank, eventually starving the engine of fuel. Other issues are blocked air filters and oil degradation that can cause irreversible engine damage.
Access Tech Support can offer solutions such as a Service Status Assessment to inform the current need for a mechanical service, Automated Notification for the next service, genuine or OEM filter options, and non disruptive on-site servicing to keep your engines working.
